Havering Library: Visiting other Libraries

The British Library

The British Library

The British Library is the UK's largest library with over 150 million items in most known languages.

It is entitled to receive a copy of every book published in the UK and Ireland.

Most of it's items are kept in closed storage - you'll need to request them and then use them in the British Library's reading rooms.

How do I join?

BL reader passes are free but you will need to give details of the material you wish to consult. You will also need to show personal identification and proof of address.

You can find full registration information on the British Library's website.

Search the British Library Catalogue.

Search 25

Joining Other University Libraries

Is there another University library closer to your home or work?

Do you want to use a book which only another library holds?

Well you can join over 200 other University Libraries in the UK and Ireland through a scheme called SCONUL access

All students can access the libraries' study spaces and get reference access to books,  though only post-graduate and part-time undergraduates can borrow books

How do I join?

Online on the SCONUL access website.  Please use your LSBU email address when you apply so we know who you are

Your application will be approved by the library here at LSBU so you need to make sure you have no library fines or other library account problems before you apply!

Once approved - we'll send you an email and you need to take that along to the library you want to join along with your LSBU ID card

Can I use Wifi at other University libraries?

Many University libraries use the EDUROAM wifi system which is the same one we use here.

If they do then you’ll be able to get wifi by using your LSBU username and password. Ask at a library help desk if you have problems

Access restrictions at other Universities

At busy times of the year some University libraries may have to restrict access to students using them under the SCONUL access scheme

We'll post updates here when we receive news of any restrictions at other London University libraries.

Current restrictions:

Roehampton University

Please note that from Monday 24 February to Sunday 10 May 2020. SCONUL Access Reference Users (Band R) will not be able to access the University of Roehampton Library.

We are restricting access due to the pressure on study space and resources and to prioritise our students’ needs during our 24 hour period. This does not affect Band A, B and C users.

Normal access will resume on Monday 11 May.

London Metropolitan University

From 6th January 2020, London Metropolitan University  will be limiting access to it's libraries for all external users.
Alumni, SCONUL Access and other external visitors may use their libraries only until 21:00 during term time and until 19:00 on weekends and during vacation.
