Health & Safety: Alarms

Alarms (Perry Library)

Accessible Toilet Alarms

If one of these is activated – library staff or security whichever is the quicker should investigate (and can switch off the alarm) – Supervisor should ensure this is done.

‘Reset’ button for these alarms is on the wall inside the toilet itself.

The alarm box is on wall beside reception desk on 1 East. It emits a high pitched continuous alarm when one of the alarm cords has been pulled. There are lights on the box to indicate which floor the alarm has been activated on.

Evacuation Chair Alarms

If an evac chair is removed from its place on the wall a very loud alarm will sound – this can be silenced by pushing wire connecting chair to wall back into its socket

Evac chairs are generally used by Security staff who have been trained to use them to assist users with mobility difficulties to exit building in an emergency (eg fire). Should only be used by people trained to do so - contact H/S if you are interested in learning
