Development Studies: Getting Started

At the moment, we are having some issues with some of our e-resources.

EBC/Proquest, Askew and Holts e-books can be accessed via the library catalogue as before.

Ebsco e-books can be accessed via the alternative route on this page.

 Journals and specialised databases:

Access must be made via an alternative route from the selection on this page.

Some databases require additional steps for access after the reset so please get in touch if you need help.

Reading Lists:

Reading lists are now accessible but if you encounter a login error, please try the alternative route above to find the e-book or the article.

We are working hard to resolve these issues.

Please email if you have any queries.

At the moment, we are having some issues with some of our e-resources.

  • Please see our web page list of currently access e-resources here.
  • Please try using a different browser to see if they work there.
  • For more information about every database, please click here.
  • Alternative resources can be found at the top of this guide under the Web Resources tab.
  • Google Scholar might also help to find journal articles.
  • You can still access your reading list however you may encounter some problems when trying to access particular resources such as scanned chapters.

Most e-books are still available, but you might need to access them via an alternative route:

1.    E-books from EBC/Proquest need to access via this alternative link -  click “Resource” to get in and search for the book title.

2.    E-books from Ebsco are still accessible via the catalogue.
Just search for the book title in the catalogue as usual, and those mark with “Ebsco Academic Collection” or “Ebsco” are accessible.

We are working hard to resolve these issues.

Please email if you have any queries.

Online and Phone Appointments

Due to Coronavirus developments we are moving from in-person appointments to online and phone appointments until further notice.

We are using MS Teams to meet online, this application enables us to make voice calls, video calls and screen sharing. Please book your session here as usual and make sure that you are registering with your LSBU Email address. To use MS Teams, all you will need is a computer, reliable internet connection and quiet space at the time of your appointment. After your registration, we will be sending you further instructions to help you get on to MS Teams.

If you want a phone appointment, please provide your phone number on the registration form, and a librarian will call you at the time of your appointment.

These sessions are 30 minutes and we can offer advice with:

  • Database Searching e.g. Journal articles
  • Referencing
  • Using Refworks

If you are unable to make any of the available slots, please email us at and we can see if we can accommodate you.
