Can't find what you need in our collection? If a book or journal article you need for your research isn't held by LSBU we can request it for you from the British Library or another UK library as an inter-library loan.
Final year undergraduates can make 10 requests. Taught postgraduates can make 20 per year.
If you are a first or second year undergraduate you can only submit requests if your tutor confirms in writing that the material is necessary for your studies.
The loans are not counted as part of your standard loan allowance.
The Information Skills Librarian can help you decide if you need to make an inter-library loan request. You may find the resources you need are already available at LSBU if you know where to look.
Things to note:
The British Library's EThOS scheme provides access to more than 250,000 theses from UK universities.
How it works:
When theses must be digitised there is sometimes a fee:
If LSBU doesn't have the book or journal you need you can use Copac to search the catalogues of over 100 major UK and Irish Libraries including the UK's National Libraries (like the British Library)
If LSBU doesn't hold the book you want it might be available at another academic library in the London area
You can use Search 25 to search the catalogues of nearly 60 academic libraries, specialist collections, and world renowned institutions in London and the South East at the same time
The British Library is the UK's largest library with over 150 million items in most known languages
It is entitled to receive a copy of every book published in the UK and Ireland
Most of it's items are kept in closed storage - you'll need to request them and then use them in the British Library's reading rooms
BL reader passes are free but you will need to give details of the material you wish to consult. You will also need to show personal identification and proof of address.
You can find full registration information on the British Library's website
